North shore of Lake Ontario | We have a 2014 Gmc 1500 which is the same as a Chev. Not gone far enough for a decent test but being the first year of a new model it has been excellent. 5.3 now is direct injected and if you can keep your foot off the throttle then 25 miles per gal is possible but hitch it to a trailer and it tows just fine but uses way more fuel.
Previous versions of the 5.3 according to our local mechanic have oil pump design problems in that they have a steel pressure regulating valve sliding in an aluminum housing which wears and then the valve will stick in an open position.
My old 2004 had that happen to the original pump and the replacement pump and an aftermarket finally fixed it. Never lost the engine though.
Not sure if the new engines have corrected that problem.
Put extended warranty on it and drive on. Gm can fix it on their dime and get a loaner thrown in when you make the deal. |
