After getting several with Tetanus after banding we went with a toxoid shot on every one at time of banding, never had an issue since.  And yes Antitoxin is short term and meant to be used in conjunction with an antibiotic to treat it once they have it.  They aren't getting tetanus for a little while after you band since there is no wound, you need something longer acting.
