NW Central Ohio | ..I think to really have good growth, you need a light over those plants about 12 hours a day. That's what I set my timer for when I used to grow them from seed. I never soaked my seeds, but would put a generous pinch of seed in a 4" pot..then water thoroughly and cover with plastic wrap. As soon as they popped...I would transplant them by digging under the group of plants..and separate them gently into bigger containers. Poke a hole down into pre-moistened potting soil and tuck the seedling in with about 1/2-3/4 inch of stem between the soil level and leaves. Water again...and place under your light. Having a fan rustle the leaves every 3 hours is a great idea...but not necessary. You just won't have quite as sturdy of stems. When hardening them off, you need to keep them in the shade (Like the north side of a house) for a week...then set them in direct sunlight. It's fun to raise them from seed....but I've come to the conclusion it's probably cheaper to let someone else do it. | |
