Formerly NE North Dakota, now NW MN | Well, I won't disagree with Dr. Akyuz or his methods. He seems like a pretty straight forward guy and I've no reason to question his methods or findings. I would, however, respectfully argue that those stats require greater context.
2012 was likely warm enough to skew any 10 year averages. Also, I really have no clue about western ND. Very likely is warmer over there. ND is a big place. The RRV tho, especially Garrett and I's neck of the woods, has enjoyed/endured cool, temperate, wet conditions. There have been a few years when we've had cool wet seasons and have not gotten our killing frost until very late. This may seem to extend the growing season, but in actuality sometimes complicates the end of the season by delaying dry down.
I will (somewhat arrogantly) say that I think temp comparisons and averages going back 100 years should be viewed with a great deal of skepticism for a whole host of reasons related to instruments, methods, and other factors. |
