That is the purpose of colostrum, it gives the animal vital antibodies, plus it helps clean the toxins out of their body when that happens they sour some. That is why you never want to feed colostrum to a calf after the first 24 hours. If you have ever raised bucket calves you will learn this real quick. You can have a 3 week old calf doing fine and if you fed it colostrum, it will scour. After a month a calf can handle colostrum without doing harm. It is a practice that shouldn't be done.
