We've found that calves do better if left on *more expensive* (read: higher fat content) milk replacer for longer.
If you switch to replacer that's low in fat or protein, they'll get "pot bellied" and won't sell well...or if you keep them a long time (such as to feed out yourself) it will take them a while to catch up to the performance of a better-fed calf.
