Wi | flatlander2010 - 1/29/2015 07:29 been thinking about all the engine emission stuff and wondering if in the next 5 years or so we will see somebody scrap the egr and dpf and just run a higher dose of def? it would make the engines simpler and more reliable. smaller engines such as the 6.8 would be easier to do this with than the qsx15 but what do you guys think?
No because SCR and the DPF accomplish seperate tasks. SCR goes for NOX, DPF goes for soot. Tune the engine to burn hot and clean and you will get high amounts of NOX, tune it to clean up NOX and you will have high amounts of PM. Finding a middle ground is the best overall solution.
Once in cylinder and injection technologies advance, you will see more of it go away.
Many people seem to forget that SCR components fail also. DPF's and EGR systems are getting fairly reliable and require minimal service. SCR is getting better also. Time will tell. |
