The Gallagher is a simple reel with no gears.  I don't use any poly but can see the advantages of a geared reel in poly.

I bought a different type reel from another company and the handle came off about the 2nd time I used it. I called them and they told me that the reel was just for poly. I went back to the 1:1 Gallagher reel with my aluminum wire.
