That's probably true if a hose gets cut or regulator gets broken off, but if something just catches on fire that you don't want on fire...ag instructor said it was always best to quickly shut off the acetylene. I suppose both habits have their merit. To date, I've never had to shut anything off quickly, nor have I had tank outflow valve slam shut.
