dko_scOH - 12/17/2014 22:22 Seed savings depends on the shape and size of your fields, but your estimate is in line with what I see here. I have not seen an increase in yield where we used to double plant but there is less lodging now. I plant 20"rows corn and beans...and am definitely having better luck with row clutches and less lodging....combining the endrows used to be a chore...especially after it snowed..and a lot of the corn was flat. In my area..the "prairie pothole region" we have sloughs..lots of them some years..and some quarters have 15-20 of them....so a lot of going around and lifting up. add to that some irregular shaped fields..and the double planting with the row clutches saved a bunch of seed..and a bunch of lodging. That and you have a accurate idea of planted acres when you are done... I don't like to plant in the dark...especially in the above conditions..but after you have row clutches and an Integra monitor..its not too bad at all. Aftermarket HID lighting a huge plus, too. |
