If the black plate, and the brushes are in good condition, and the seed is well lubricated, it can give good performance even with borderline large size seeds.
A lot of people think a worn plate can handle a little bit larger seed, but this is the worst possible thing you can do. Wear on the plates does not enlarge the seed pockets, it just wears away the edges of the seed pockets which grab the seeds (making large seed performance WORSE, not better).
If you have questions, take a few meters and some of your seed to your dealer. Have him run the meter on the test stand, with your seed, with the black, and the blue plate. Then use the one that gives the best performance. This has the side benefit of also getting maintenance recommendations on those meters (perhaps your blue brush has seen better days?).
