Dad and his cousins never cared what size they were though some farmers around here always wanted a big bean, bigger the better, as they said a small bean didn't have enough energy to make as much.  They never noticed a difference between big and little on the same variety in the same year.  The only time they cared was when they ran older planters or drills where you had to adjust for a change in sizes.  Consistency helped a great deal.
