Not so quick, it all depends on what he is growing and what the market is. I agree that if he intends to grow corn and beans then yeah, get an off farm job and 'work' the farm on weekends or vacation days from work. IF however he's looking at veggies, or another niche crop then 200 acres COULD keep a guy busy year round. Not really enough details given to say one way or the other. Lots of farmer around here work for municipalities/county/province in the winter time driving snow plow ... if OP is from the Northern states then pushing snow can amount to a full time winter job.
