Rivers, MB | I have an Ag engineering degree but farm full time. Has a decent fit with Ag. But if I was to do it again, a degree in business or Ag economics/marketing would be my first choice.
A very successful farm business owner in western canada that I know commented once that of all the people he knows that went to Ag school, the ones that majored in business or economics have done the best for themselves financially.
I was weak on the agronomy side of farming when I came home to farm. And on the accounting/business/marketing skills. I have self learned agronomy skills much faster than the business side of farming. And it's much easier to hire someone to help with agronomy decisions than it is to hire someon to manage your farm better and make good business decisions.
A program that has a mix of economics, business, marketing, agronomy and practical mechanics would also be a good choice.
