East central Iowa | I have a friend that has a degree in economics and he is perhaps the most profitable and one of the largest farmers in the area.
I also have a friend that has a degree in business and he too farms quite successfully.
Upon consideration I realize I have a number of friends that have degrees seemingly unrelated to farming but who farm.
A neighbor's son is taking ag engineering at ISU and found he was the only one there that knew how to work on an engine. He is interning for a major ag machinery company and they have given him tremendous responsibility. It makes me suspicious that those who grew up working and learning on a farm may have the basic farming skills but could use some other skills in business.
edit, 2 things you should do, 1. do really good in school, it pays. 2. get internships.
