Fruita CO
The biggest operation in this county was built up by 4 brothers, 1st gen. from Italy, back in the 30's & 40's. Being good Italian Catholics, all 4 brothers had lots of kids...as time went on, one son of each of the "old men" took over the operation, ran it for years. About 1000 acres of farm ground, 200 ac. of apple orchard, packing shed for apples & onions both, feedlot & maybe 10,000 ac.mountain grazing land, cattle & sheep both. Side businesses selling fertilizer & land leveling...about as close to BTO status as it got around here...
Worked OK until the old men started dieing off, then the siblings that never worked a day on the farm started wanting their share...when it all shook out one of the 4 cousins told me "When the vultures got through pickin' at it, there was nothing left"...mountain ground was sold off to a movie star, lot of the farm ground is houses now, each of the 4 cousins did get their house & a piece of ground, but the big operation is history, & none of the family will hardly even speak to each other.
I'm not qualified to tell you how to handle your situation, just a tale about what can happen...hopefully you can avoid a debacle like that.
