Those out door facilities had to be cleaned out..........by hand. i do not know of any services that did the job although maybe urban areas had some body to do it and dispose of !!it. The first 15 years of my life was spent using the outdoor facilities. Each year, we dug a new hole, moved the outhouse and covered up the old hole. Kept a Montgomery Ward catalog and a sack of lime in the outhouse all the time. With 6 brothers and 6 sisters, the boys very seldom ever made it to the outhouse for #1. |
