i will reply even though you asked for opinions on steel and house only, no shop included. 8 years ago we built a 60x104x18 morton with columns on 7 1/2' columns. we have our house three columns wide with a basement under house part. 18' sidewalls allowed 2 story house with full basement also. walls are 8" thick and wall between house and shop is equal to an outside wall. we are very satisfied with results. we have had some water problems which morton has tried to solve with some results. if we have a rain storm with heavy winds we can get some water in basement. we needed housing and shop and was a solution for us. would not be for everyone as equipment sometimes is on top of house so to speak but wife has no problem with it and is very happy with results. when in house, don't even realize are living in a shed. utilities are modest as we have very thick insulation and noise from shop is almost nonexistent. morton did basement, put in first floor and put in header for second floor. also they insulated walls and hung floating ceiling. we did all other building. very satisfied. it is kind of like living in a trailer house as house is about 20x60 but have 3 floors so have about 3000' floor space. only limited by your imagination on what you can do.
