It does it like this.

Say you're cruising to the headland rows. Your vac motors are humming along, requiring about 1500 psi to maintain their set flow. All SCV's are subject to this same 1500 psi of pressure.

When the planter reaches the end, and the lift SCV is engaged, it undoubtedly requires more than 1500 psi (who among us run our lift SCV at less than full flow, honestly?).

When the lift SCV load sense signal drives the pump to max pressure (let's call it 3000 psi), all SCV's are now subject to that 3000 psi pressure. This typically causes a momentary flow increase in the SCV that was previously subject to 1500 psi. How much of an an increase, and for what duration it lasts depends upon how fast the flow control of that SCV responds. They can be quite fast, but they are not instantaneous.

Most likely the LS setup he mentioned was something that just drove the pump to full pressure, all the time. This does tend to give the most consistent operation when multiple circuits with multiple flow rates are running in continuous operation.
