Life's but a walking shadow | I don't have the time to research the relative proportions of the various market participants, but couldn't you get some idea from past commitments of traders? I would guess that traders participate in various markets depending on how they perceive their chance of success. I also suspect that with the advent of modern high speed communications, reporting services, etc. their ability to make money declines as their access to early information declines. We, farmers can get market & weather information so much faster. We know if a cargo is canceled in China almost immediately. Without that edge maybe the traders just don't want to bother. Or is it the case that like a great many of us we choose not to trade because we see it as inherently unfair? |
