central - east central Minnesota -

momo - 9/11/2013 05:46 mkfarm, I'm not sure what you want to say. Otherwise drainage generally reduces the level of ground water, and the surface is less of a problem. I see it as two separate problems: surface and groundwater.

Your low spots (basins) need to have an Outlet . ..  your tile lines (or rock trenches) need to drain to a lower drainage ditch (creek, river or swamp) for it to work well. If you do not have an outlet, the rock trenches you porpose, will need to be large enough to hold sufficient rain fall events. This could work, but you need to keep the dirt/silt from filtering into the rocks. As Gerald mentioned, here we have filter cloth to wrap around the trench. I would also consider bringing the rocks, in a narrow ditch/channel, up to the surface, for faster drainage.
Good Luck and Well come. Hopefully, you can share more of your experence, with us and learn to post pic's of your operation also.
