Subject: Re: Old Cow Milking

East Central, Nebraska
What do you mean by don't wait too long? I have been feeding them pretty well. Grass hay and decent alfalfa plus i occasionally put out a corn stalk bale (ground) for them to pick through and lay on. They are very old cows. Should have went on their way last year. This weather is terrible and my facilities are poor. Never expected this.

One more question, how many pounds of alfalfa or grass hay is enough for any run of the mill stock cow to keep them maintaining their weight and growing their calf properly. Right now they have to be eating at least 30#s of hay. I don't weigh each bale but i kind of know what my baler can do.

Thanks.
