Saskatchewan, big whitetail country!!!
Most is from 12 inches to 18, and up to 24 inches of black (8% plus OM), loam-clay loam over many feet of yellow/orange clay loam. Some of our dark gray chernozems (5-6% OM), are 6-12 " of loam to clay loam over clay loam. We do farm about 70 acres of low organic matter (under 5%), 4-6" deep topsoil grey wooded soil (luvisols), which is loam over clay loam.

In wet years, our worst soils do the best, which has been frequent lately! Wish in wet years I had more shallow soils with less water holding capacity. We would be completely screwed in this area if it were clay or heavy clay soil. Too wet. Always.
