Because most of us do not want it.  As for quality of care and new treatments the US is top of the line so why go backwards.  Also in Canada you don't have the illegal alien problem that we have, whenever universal health care is brought up here we are told it wouldn't be fair to make sure somebody is a legal citizen before treating them and billing the legal citizens. 


My dad has a cousin who lives in Canada and she was saying how great their health care system is, she goes to the doctor for every little thing because it's free.  She has no clue that it's not "free" but since she doesn't see a bill she takes no personal responsibility for it.
