roaming | First answer: I think it would require physical possession of the laptop (probably not the battery, unless the battery must be present for the software to be configured), unless he is able to take advantage of a different exploit to remotely access the battery management code.
Second answer: Because he can? :-) 7 months he spent on this hack. That's some serious dedication. I might have given it 7 hours before I turned to something a little less obscure...
