| The main thing that Linux (or Mac) offers a Windows user is freedom from malware. None of your current Windows apps will run in Linux - but there is plenty of software available for Linux to do the same things. Open Office comes with the Ubuntu package and lets you read, modify, and write MS Office files. If you have any farm related software, you are probably out of luck. You can, however, run Windows inside of a virtual machine on Linux and use all of your current apps.
Ubuntu's setup utility will etablish a dual boot for you if you want. No additional software would need to be purchased. | |
