The Storm King fire was by Glenwood Springs, about 90 miles from here. I think it was 12 firefighters who died when the fire blew up & trapped them on a ridge. There is a monument to them at the site now...one of the worst forest fire tragedies in history. The mountain is still pretty much bare, that fire sterilized the ground.
Is that the same one where some laid down under the protective blankets and still didn’t survive?
Or maybe I’m confusing that one with that big Arizona fire.
I do recall watching a documentary on what I believe was that same fire in Colorado, but it has been a long time. |
