It's historically early and in many ways a good thing because most ares have adequate moisture for pollination and ear development. That's the positive. The negative is that too many GDD's early lead to a shorter grain fill which leads to a lower test weight. The corn will also be subject to being too dry during harvest especially in area with 50/50 soy rotations. However, if August has some cloudy days than your looking at a monster crop of soil moisture levels stay up
The heat was fine up until pollination. After that cooler temps would be much better as it has longer time to fill and can pack in the yield. Thats why 2014 was so good. |
