Middlesex County, Ontario | I couldn't blame anyone for following this logic:
Its a young and single man's game. Anyone with an ounce of foresight is able to realize that these hours aren't sustainable, the hours will have to get cut back when there's a wife and kids. How about having to quit the co-op job because you now have a family that requires regular hours. Your income goes from $80k with all that overtime to ~$55k driving truck locally. Driving truck is about the only 8-5 gig that you are qualified for. Maybe you could get a factory job that pays a little better but that would kill your spark even more. Once you have a family there is no going back to school. In order to work at the co-op in my 20's and really capitalize on this overtime and really good paychecks I have to sacrifice my whole future. Sounds like a bleak future, I'll go to college thank you very much.
To the OP. Maybe your co-op's labour force is poorly managed. If you hire the right people, pay them the right amount, and lead them the right way then they don't all just leave. |
