Subject: Kansas dryland corn lottery..

It's really kind of like the lottery.

So how well does ground cash flow on sub 100 bu corn?  It doesn't.

Dryland corn is like the lottery.. Last year we had some fields do 120+ and it varies.. even this year.. we've got a couple fields which "may" push 100 bushel.. so far.. coming up just shy.. but cash rent out here is.. $35'ish an acre.. so most of your production costs are inputs.. and it's a good rotation with wheat.. our best wheat yields will be the 2nd year after a corn crop.. but like a hurdle race.. when you start hitting hurdles.. the odds of hitting the next one goes WAY UP!!

Because of the Sugar Cane Aphid.. we saw a huge outflow from Sorghum to Soybeans and Corn.. as luck.. or the cycle.. or whatever.. would have it.  The Sugar Cane aphids have been Way DOWN this year.. (beat head here..) and we've actually sprayed more Soybean acres.. cloverworms.. et all.. than sorghum..

"It's always something."

Anywho next year.. I suspect we'll see these acreages swing back.. ESPECIALLY if all you are getting is 30 bu corn or 15 bu beans.. which are ALOT more EXPENSIVE to grow..

"Ouch!!"

Later.
