It looks like their is slightly more drought on the monitor in 17 than 12 at this time. It's amazing how alike the patterns are on the maps. I would like to see higher prices but I'm not sure we need 5 dollor corn and I think it would be very tough on producers at this time.


That's not what I see at all. The area affected in the southeast is a little smaller is further north than 2012. Texas is in much better shape. Oklahoma and Kansas are about the same as 2012. The Dakotas, Minnesota and Iowa are better. From the maps I'm looking at only Missouri is dryer than 2012 at this time.

Locally it is warm and dry for this time of year. I saw some ground being worked last Sunday which is crazy! I don't remember 2012 being this warm and dry this early. The only time I worked any ground this early was in 1988 and that didn't turn out good at all!
