My Wife's bypass as explained to me was more of a rearrange the plumbing, which does reduce absorbtion of some things. Reduced iron absorbtion has been one thing she has had to deal with, and she does take half a dozen vitamin supplements.
The bypass is reversible, so that is another plus.
