northeastern Ohio | No first hand experience, but I do have a friend from college that had the band surgery. He lost a lot of weight, and now has gained a little back. It seemed to change his personality (he seems less happy now) and he looks sickly to me. We are not close friends, so I really don't feel comfortable asking him any probing questions. Just my observations with very few facts, so take it for what it's worth.
