Near Lansing, MI		I put helix 3500lb overload leafs on my Chevy 2500HD. Rides stiffer and makes noise on bumpy gravel but they don't break.

Just spitballing here, but maybe find some 2500 leafs for your 1500?

I don't know about the spring length but a junk yard set would be cheap.
