Some pieces of tin, a pair of snips and a roll of duct tape will get you to 10 or 15" row spacing. The advantage for me is if I get crusting, the seedlings help each other push up.

On the typical no-till drill here, you can lock up a rank of openers to save on wear and tear and increase maximum downpressure, but even if I couldn't, I would still block off seed cups as needed to get more seed per foot of row.
