south central IOWA | It's a partial powershift as some would call it. We've got both, a powerquad with right hand reverser and a partial powershift.
I prefer the reverser setup. It's smoother and easier to shift. That partial powershift setup reminds me of the 8 speed powershift in the 4440 I had. Not as jerky but easy to throw the lever pass a gear because it takes some more pressure in a smaller window between gear shifts than the reverser setup. Hard to explain until you've used both.
I'd keep looking if I was you as I wouldn't own a red tractor for loader work.
Sounds like the piston rings are worn if it's burning oil like that.
