Subject: RE: Parsnips

NW Washington
They are like carrots. They need to be planted very shallow and the soil can not dry out. I have never been able to figure out how outfits like Bolthouse and Grimmway Farms can grow thousands of acres of carrots and I can not get a 20 foot row of them to germinate and grow.
An old fellow once told me to put a board over the row after the carrots or parsnips were seeded until the seeds germinated, so that might be worth a try.
Check with google.com and look at this link from Utah.

Here is a Utah State bulletin on this subject. http://extension.usu.edu/htm/faq/faq_q=89
