nw oh | Over on crop talk there is a poster who has had a couple of posts about farmers missing out on opportunities on non gmo markets. He has referenced that there is a lot of demand for non gmo fed cattle.
This raised a few questions:
1. Has anyone on here heard of these markets? I have seen the contracts for no hormone, no antibiotics.
2. If there is a market is there any test they could run to check the meat for what it was fed?
My gut reaction is answer to one is no there are not large markets outside of freezer beef. The reason is due to #2 that major packers would have no way to check.
Also, on the no hormone, no antibiotic can they verify those or is it just an honesty thing.
For reference, we implant, use aureomycin in the feed sparingly, raise all gmo corn, raise some non gmo beans for a premium. Feel gmo's are safe and so are implants. Feed 900 head of Holsteins from 250 to finish. | |
