I'm trying to clear my slate of computer work so I can get in the field. But I have this e-machine that is exasperating. It starts and gives me the black screen with the usual information. It gives me an option to "fix" the machine and then if I choose that it shuts off. Same thing if I try to boot normally OR try to boot into safe mode. Booting from a Linux CD gets me so far and then it shuts off. I've run the mem test program and no errors showed up. Note it ran for quite a while and completed. I unplugged the hard drive and tried booting from the CD. It goes so far and shuts down. I pulled the memory out one at a time and tried to boot. No luck. I can't believe it's the power supply or it wouldn't run the test for mem. Then too I an leave it set for as long as I want on the black screen asking if I want to boot into safe mode. Or using the Linux CD I can leave it set too. I'm starting to think it's the motherboard. Thoughts?
