Must be a location thing, not sure what guys on here are calling sand but around here the only sand you will find is concrete sand and I wouldn't build anything on that and stone is probably cheaper. For a lift like that we would use 304 limestone (2" to fines) and pack well. But we live in a county that has at least 3 quarries.
