SN 10,001 was the start of the 1997 production on all of the 8X00 tractors and was when the 3 lower HP models got the 8.1L. It was NOT until SN 20,001 or the start of the 1998 model year when the transmission improvements were made.
I always tell my customers to look for a 20,001 SN and up tractor.
