Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I bought a used STX-450 Quad on a retirement auction a year or so ago. It has the Kile clear covers on the rollers and idlers. One of these is using oil at a fairly fast rate and I am considering repair it and others. The troublesome one in on one of the small rollers.
My understanding is that the seal arrangement has been changed and C-IH would have me update to a newer style. I also thought I read here or somewhere that some machine shop had made an adapter that allowed one to use a truck seal instead. The report was that it was actually better than the C-IH update.
I talked with my seed dealer who has had C-IH tracks through the years on many models. They have changed out these seals themselves and even have some tools for the job. I'm considering trying to do this ourselves with the help of a knowledgeable friend and some coaching from the Seed Dealer.
I would appreciate any insights from anyone who has experience in this matter. Maybe its foolish to try to do the repair ourselves. |
