Subject: Percision seed disc wear

Southern Lower Michigan
I have 1770 jd vacume planter. Was loosing population on a couple of rows couldn't figure it out. finally decided it could be the seed disc. . Got some new corn disc from shoop. Put them in, and planter worked fine.. Then after about a couple of hours planting, the rows with the new disc started messing up again (loosing population). When my Nephew checked them, there was some sort of buildup on the door seal, and the disc itself had some fine grooves worn in it, on the door side. The new seed disc were coated with what looked like a graphite. would that have caused the problem? The door seal still looks good.
They were new near the end of last year, and only like 100 acres use, on a 12 row..
I don't see any where they have rubed on the door, other than the seal, and the door seal still looks good. The old disc, that came with the planter, didn't have any coating. I replaced the new disc, with the old ones, and I was able to finish the field, but the two row were low on population.
I am not shure what caused the disc to wear like they did.
Joe
