You could take 50 to Hutchinson, then k61 to Pratt and then 54 into Dodge. That would take you through a lot of ks. I kinda like 54 better than 50 for heading west from our place. We're about halfway between 50 and 54 on K61. A few more places to stop on 54. You're right about avoiding Wichita.
50 merges with 61 at Hutchinson. They split about 10 miles west with 61 running south west.
I am changing my answer from above about taking 50 to Dodge. 54 will be slight longer by a few minutes.
