SEIL | Rust is an issue with all brands. I drive a 2007 FJ Cruiser 2/3rds of the time. Last week the gas tank straps rusted through and dropped the tank on the hwy. I really like the vehicle but it goes through wheel bearings, drive shafts, u-joints, brake calipers, just as fast as any other brand. Currently on its third clutch. 163K miles. Few months ago the screws holding the MAF sensor in place vibrated out and put me to walking. Terrible mileage for its size and no power (4.0L). Luckily parts are cheap, readily available and it is easy to work on.
Another engineer here bought a new Ford 3/4 ton about 10 years ago. Already had the cancer over the rear wheals fixed once. Maybe 80K miles and he lives on pavement.
Every single Jeep over 5 years old has either had the frame patched or needs it due to rust through. Hundreds of aftermarket sites selling replacement frames and pieces. | |
