Subject: LOL Moving Rail cars

Central Illinois
Was a hoot back in the day. I helped Sohigro when they needed some extra help as a kid. Both nH3 and dry hoppers were moved back and forth on the siding. And first, we used a very heavy (stout) pry bar with a winged foot, especially designed to pry a RR car wheel to move it. They finally bought one of dad’s old Super 88’s (sure wish I had that one back) to move the cars one day, someone got them moving to fast and tried to stop it with the 88. It rolled that tractor right over, but finally got the cars stopped. My son still has that RR pry bar.

As far as moving nH3, how many remember side dressing with a pull unit with a 560 gallon tank? When it got empty, we backed it up to a 1,000 gallon tank and used an ammonia vapor pump to pump the liquid up into the 560 gallon tank. Darn glad when someone got smart enough to spread wheels out on nurse tank wagon and a pull hitch on the applicator.
