North Central Oregon | We did experiments in Advanced High School Biology where we had Petri Dishes with a Agar growth media. We seeded the the substrate with various cultures from surfaces around the school. We made multiple cultures left some as controls and then placed items in others like copper rounds, Pure silver rounds, stainless steel, etc in different petri dishes. The Silver had a definite effect on the bacteria. There would be no growth of bacteria out a 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the silver. If I remember right there was also a smaller effect with the copper as well. Other objects showed no anti-bacterial action at all. So silver as an antibiotic has always made sense to me from my personal observation in that Biology class.
