Subject: Brazil corn production

Brazil's second crop corn production increased from 243 million bushels in 2001/02 to 3,252 million bushels in 2020/21 (see Figure 1). Meanwhile, Brazil's first crop corn, harvested primarily during January-April, has shown slight declines in production from 1,145 million bushels to 965 million bushels in 2020/21.Apr 12, 2021

So Brazil produces just over 4 billion bu. a year normally. 75% of those bu. come from their second crop. It is in trouble.. how much trouble???

According to the Presudent of the Rural Syndicate of Marechal Candido Rondon/PR, the corn that is suffering the most is the 20% of the crop that was planted in February because it is now in its reproductive phase. Losses for the February planted corn is at least 40%. The remaining 80% of the corn was planted in March and it is still in vegetative development. Losses for the March planted corn is estimated at 30% and it could go higher without additional rainfall very soon. The forecast is calling for the next chance of rainfall associated with a cold front moving into the state next week.

So early planted safrinha corn is in trouble. IF THE EARLY PLANTED SAFRINHA CROP IS IN TROUBLE, HOW MUCH TROUBLE WILL THE LATER PLANTED SFRINHA CROP HAVE AS THE DRY SEASON BECOMES MORE ENTRENCHED????

Will they lose 500 million, 1 billion, 1.5 billion or more Bu.??????
