If you get the holes all sealed up, your chances are pretty good. The problem comes when a lot of old holes are connected. You spend a lot of time with your shovel closing off holes as the smoke appears, kind of like whack-a-mole. I got better results using at least two per hole. Sometimes it helps to use small pieces of plywood over the holes.
