No inflationary pressure right after ww1, just a short sharp downturn, some would say a depression.

Yes a short depression followed by boom times. But that was back when the govt actually let the market forces work, unlike weimar Germany. Today we are closer to weimar Germany than 1919 usa. Print rather than cleanse.
